CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOP 2026

21.06.26 | Day 12

The moment we had all been building toward finally arrived. Sunday was officially opening day!

We set out snacks and drinks, and stretched a rope across the structure for a proper ceremonial ribbon-cutting. A huge thank you to Øst Ølbar for supporting us and helping make the opening celebration better. With a quick snip of the scissors, the rope fell, and Tou Landskap was officially open to the public!

We couldn't have asked for a better turnout. Plenty of locals (and quite a few dogs!) stopped by to check out the project. Hearing everyone's positive feedback was wonderful, but the absolute most rewarding part of the entire journey was simply stepping back and watching people actually use the project. Seeing children climbing, people sitting, and the community immediately gathering on the steps we built with our own hands was an incredible feeling.

We spent the afternoon soaking in the beautiful sunny weather, chatting with visitors, and enjoying great company. We truly hope the local community loves this new space and uses it actively for years to come. We are so incredibly happy with the final result, and we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on it!

This project would still just be a drawing on a screen without the incredible network that supported us. We want to extend a massive thank you to our amazing sponsors: ESSVE, AFAG, NAL, No Worries, BAS, Øst Ølbar, and Østsiden Blomster. You have been a crucial part of this journey, and we are so grateful for your trust and support.

And finally, a huge thank you from this year's project leaders, Anabel and Stanislas, goes out to our amazing team: Oda, Ellen, and Milla, as well as everyone else who joined and contributed during our design workshop phase.

Our team may have been small, but it was incredibly powerful. TreStykker 2026 is officially a wrap!

20.06.26 | Day 11

The day we had all been working toward finally arrived: our eleventh and final building day!

We were incredibly lucky to have some extra help on site today. A huge shoutout to Simon, who joined the crew and brought along some very useful tools that made our workflow much faster and a whole lot of fun.

In the middle of the shift, we received a surprise visit from one of Simon’s friends, who brought us a freshly baked kanelsnurr! Between the warm pastry providing a much-needed sugar hit and some refreshing watermelon to keep us hydrated in the heat, we were truly well looked after. With our energy topped up, the team split into two final groups. One crew stayed focused on the cladding, cutting and fitting the trickier, irregular bottom planks to flush everything out. The other crew moved on to the plant boxes. It was finally time to add the soil and plant the flowers and our new tree! We owe a thank you to Østsiden Blomster for generously giving us some of the beautiful plants. They bring the perfect pop of color to the timber and make the Tou Landskap look even more inviting.

After our longest day on site, all the individual pieces finally came together into one finished structure. It feels almost unbelievable to see it standing complete. We are so incredibly proud of our super small but super powerful team for pulling this off!

We spent a relaxed evening enjoying a nice dinner together, resting our tired body, and getting everything ready for the opening on Sunday. We can’t wait to share the final result with everyone!

19.06.26 | Day 10

Friday morning was kicked off with Stan doing another presentation, this time at the Bynettverk conference led by a board member of NTNU Wood. It was an incredible platform to showcase what TreStykker is all about, share our journey, and explain why student-led wood projects are so vital. Spreading the word at events like this is how we hopefully keep the spirit of the project alive for future generations of students.

Back on site, we again had the beautiful, warm summer weather. While the sunshine was a good mood booster, working under the hot sun all day was definitely a physical challenge. Despite the heat, our workflow was incredibly smooth.

We spent the day cutting and attaching the vertical cladding. By the time we packed up, we had finished almost all of it, leaving behind only irregular, custom planks that need special fitting. We also managed to wrap up the top cladding on several of the upper steps. Seeing the raw structure become a beautifully finished, clean timber installation is rewarding.

After a demanding but highly successful day on our feet, we were invited over for a barbecue. We spent the evening enjoying fantastic food, and wonderful company. It was the absolute perfect way to unwind, celebrate our progress, and fully recharge our batteries for our very last official building day tomorrow!

18.06.26 | Day 9

On Thursday, it was very nice summer weather again and it was time to unwrap the timber for the cladding. We decided to test our working methods on the smallest movable piece first. Once we found our rhythm, we tackled a structural challenge on the third step. There is an existing fence protecting the ventilation system behind our structure, but since our three steps raised the height of the platform, the original fence was no longer tall enough to safely separate the spaces. To solve this, we built an extra wall extension and successfully clad it.

After our lunch break, we took a slight detour from the tools and visited the architecture office Helen & Hard. Getting a tour of their workspace, seeing their innovative wood-focused projects, and soaking in what is easily one of the best office views we've ever seen was inspiring. Energized from the visit, we headed straight back to Tou to continue with the cladding. We began installing the vertical cladding boards, and completed the horizontal cladding of the smallest module.

Everything is starting to look cohesive and complete!

17.06.26 | Day 8

Wednesday brought us rainy weather, making it easily one of our most physically demanding days on-site. However, with deadlines approaching, stopping wasn't an option. We shifted our focus toward the smaller details and structural reinforcements that will make the project durable and functional. We spent the morning adding and fixing the final support legs to ensure everything is completely stable on the uneven ground.

One of the features of this year's design is its flexibility, which includes a couple of movable elements. Today, we successfully fitted these parts with their wheels, allowing them to shift and slide as intended. From there, we started building the integrated plant boxes. Because these boxes will eventually hold heavy soil and plants, we had to carefully construct wall and base structures capable of handling the weight over time. In the afternoon, we took a quick break from the tools to do a phone interview with Arkitektur magazine. It was a great experience to share our journey, discuss our challenges, and hopefully spark some interest for next year's project.

There is no denying that working in the pouring rain made it a long, exhausting day. Despite the damp weather, we managed to solve many small details so the upcoming days will be smoother.

16.06.26 | Day 7

Tuesday morning started with fixing a minor alignment issue from the day before, as one corner of the structure wasn't matching up perfectly with the other. Fortunately, we figured it out quickly and were able to dive straight into the day’s main objective. The mission for today was to level all the remaining steps and attach their legs. Because of the uneven ground, this required a lot of patience, continuous measuring, and precise adjustments. By the end of the afternoon, all of the steps are now leveled!

Tomorrow we just need to fully secure the connections and add a few extra legs to ensure the entire base is rock-solid. It took the whole day, but for the very first time, we got to see the entire structure sitting exactly where it belongs, reaching its true final height. Our design also includes a couple of built-in plant boxes integrated into the timber structure, so we spent the final part of our on-site hours figuring out the best way to construct and fit those into the frame.

Once the tools were packed away, a few team members continued designing our TreStykker 2026 t-shirts, while the rest of us wound down, waiting for the evening's football match to start.

The structure is finally standing tall, and seeing its true shape in the space gives us all the energy we need for the next days!

15.06.26 | Day 6

First things first: we fixed the measuring mistakes from Saturday, which also resolved the access path to the ventilation system behind the structure. And then assembled another frame. With that we officially finished all the main frames! Next, we shifted our focus to cutting the legs of the first step. Because the ground on-site is tilted, we had to carefully measure and level every single leg individually to ensure the structure sits perfectly flat. By the end of the day, the legs for the first level were completely done.

Stavanger treated us to a nice, sunny summer day. We worked outside all day and came away with a few sunburns, but the summery atmosphere was still amazing. Sadly, our team is running slightly smaller than planned, as one of our participants unfortunately got sick and couldn't join us on-site. We are sending a speedy recovery, and the rest of us are pushing hard to keep the project going!

Being out in the open attracted a lot of attention. Some visitors and local artists from the Tou Scene community stopped by throughout the day, curious to know what we were building. Once we packed up the site, we made a quick trip to the construction supply store to pick up a few missing materials for the next phases.

In the evening, part of the team started working on a fun side project: designing and creating our official TreStykker 2026 merch t-shirts. Meanwhile, Stan spent the evening preparing for a presentation at an upcoming NTNU conference focused on wood projects, where he will be showcasing TreStykker to professionals and academics.

Another incredibly productive day and we can't wait to see the structure start rising off the ground tomorrow!

14.06.26 | Day 5

After several intense days of building, day five was all about slowing down. To keep our energy levels high for the upcoming week, a proper break from the construction site was exactly what the team needed.

The weather in Stavanger was warm and sunny, so we decided to make the most of it and cooked pancakes and made a long brunch outside in the sunshine. We spent the afternoon down by the seaside. It was the perfect afternoon to just unwind and do what we love at a slower pace, some of us brought books to read, others spent time sketching the scenery, and some picked up their knitting.

We cooked a nice dinner together, caught up on some more football, and enjoyed a lovely, quiet evening. We are recharged, and ready to get going with the project on Monday morning!

13.06.26 | Day 4

We were back on-site around 9:00 with a clear challenge: due to events at Tou Scene, we had a deadline to stop all noisy cutting by 13:00. To maximize our time, we immediately split up again. One team went fully on cutting duty, working rapidly to prepare the timber for the majority of the remaining frames, while the second team stayed focused on assembly. We managed to cut almost every single frame piece for the structure, leaving only one final frame to go. The morning rain cleared up, giving way to a beautiful, slightly sunny afternoon, so we had a well-deserved lunch break outside.

After lunch, the entire crew shifted focus exclusively to assembly. Together, we managed to completely finish three new frames. Building at a 1:1 scale always brings a few surprises. During the process, we noticed a couple of spots where we need to adjust an angle to make the joints fit well. We also discovered a minor measuring mistake from our initial site survey, meaning one of the frames is slightly too long. Because of this, we had to pause and re-evaluate how the structure interacts with the surroundings, specifically regarding the access to the ventilation system located right behind our installation. Fortunately, it’s a quick fix, adjusting the frame will be our first task on Monday morning, which will solve the ventilation access at the same time.

Because it was Saturday, Tou Scene had many visitors, and our project drew a lot of curiosity and attention from the local community. To see how everything looked, we temporarily placed the finished frames in their future positions. It was a motivating moment for the whole team. For the first time, we could see the actual scale and physical presence of the project in real life, rather than just on a computer screen or sheet of paper.

With the site cleaned, tools packed away, and the productive days behind us, it was time to rest. We cooked a great dinner together at our base, and then headed out to explore what Stavanger’s nightlife has to offer. It was a fantastic, fun night out and the perfect break for our team!

12.06.26 | Day 3

Day three arrived with rainy weather, but a little rain wasn't going to slow down the progress at Tou Scene. We started the morning arriving on-site around 9:00. The sky was gray, and the forecast didn't promise any improvements, so our first priority was adaptation. We quickly set up our tent to create a dry, sheltered workstation for our main sawing station. With a roof over our tools, we were finally able to make the very first cuts of the project. Once the station was running, we split the crew into two teams: the cutting team and the assembly team. The cutting team focused on preparing the timber, while the assembly team took the finished pieces and immediately began screwing them together.

Before lunchtime, the first wooden frame started taking shape! We faced a few challenges early on with complex angled cuts, but after figuring out the geometry, the workflow became smooth. By the afternoon, we had already started on two additional frames, giving us a great head start for tomorrow. Our agreement with the bar at Tou Scene is that we must stop using the loud power saws once they open their doors to customers. However, because of the heavy rain, nobody was sitting outside on the patio. The staff gave us permission to keep cutting longer. Thanks to their flexibility, we managed to mark and cut a good amount of timber today.

After a long day, we packed up our tools and cleaned up the site. Since it was Friday, we celebrated the end of a demanding day with a proper Tacofredag and another football match on the screen. It was a long, exhausting day on our feet, but seeing the individual pieces finally come together into actual structures is the best motivation we could ask for!

11.06.26 | Day 2

On day two, the real physical work began. We started the morning by setting up our perimeter on site and clearly marking out our workspace at Tou Scene. Then came the heavy lifting: picking up the timber we ordered last week. Transporting that much wood is a good challenge, and we were incredibly lucky to get a helping hand from Stan’s family, who helped us to pick up and transport the materials directly to the site. We are very thanful!

Once the wood was safely organized on-site, we planned out our working stations and immediately started marking the precise lengths onto the timber pieces, getting everything ready for the first cuts.

After a long day, we shifted our focus and got some rest. In the evening, we all cooked dinner together and wrapped up the day with the first tournament on FIFA. It was a nice way to spend some time together after a hard day's work.

10.06.26 | Day 1

The wait is finally over! TreStykker 2026 has officially kicked off at Tou Scene. Stavanger greeted us with beautiful, sunny weather. Even though our team is small this year, the spirit of TreStykker is alive. It feels amazing to finally be on-site, having fun, and get working to give something back to the local community.

Our first day was all about getting settled in Stavanger and prepping the site for the intensive build ahead. Before any wood could be cut, we needed to secure the final details on-site and make sure our work plan was completely locked in. We sat down as a team to review the full schedule and map out the days ahead. We also got a boost from Lervig, who are kindly supporting the build crew this year with an incredible supply of alcohol-free drinks. We stopped by to pick up the batch, and we are so grateful to have them to keep us hydrated on the site!

The emotions are super positive. Everyone at Tou Scene has been exceptionally helpful and supportive, and we are ready for what the next days will bring! Stay tuned for more updates as the structure begins to take shape.

EASTER WORKSHOP 2026

04.04.26 | Day 4

The final day of the workshop is here! We spent the morning translating our designs into digital models. This allowed us to dive into the specific technical details of the construction. We were looking at the angles of the seating areas, explored options for integrated greenery, and refined the placement and pitch of the roof.

In the afternoon, we took a break to explore the Stavanger architecture scene. It was an inspiring tour! We were also invited to an Easter egg hunt. Spending some fun time in the sun searching for eggs made us all feel like kids again for a moment. After some final touches to the project, we concluded the workshop with a final call with our online participants to review the design.

Thank you to all the participants for such a productive and fun workshop! A huge thank you to Tou Scene for providing us with such a great workspace. We will continue to refine the details and share our progress, so keep an eye on this website and our Instagram page for updates!

03.04.26 | Day 3

We started the day with an online check-in to see how everyone’s concepts were progressing. Sharing our first ideas and sketches led to great discussions and feedback sessions. At every step, we looked at the "big picture" to ensure the new intervention speaks to the existing environment in the best way possible. This led to deep debates: should the shape be a contrast to the surroundings, perhaps an organic form instead of an angular one?

We also began focusing on the roof design. We played with the idea that it could be more than just a shelter from the rain. We discussed incorporating water and natural elements to strengthen the connection to the sea and the surrounding landscape. Of course, we had to end the day with tacos! It was a lovely gathering filled with good food and even more interesting discussions.

02.04.26 | Day 2

This year, we are excited to offer the possibility of joining the Easter Workshop online! We held our first digital meeting today to meet the rest of the participants. It is inspiring to see how international our team is and the diverse backgrounds everyone brings to the table. Together, we revisited the site requirements and discussed the primary needs and ideas for the project

Before lunch, we headed out to measure the site and create drawings of the existing. By the evening, these were finished and ready to be used as the foundation for our design. We began gathering inspiration, sketching initial concepts, and agreeing on the core elements the project should include. We ended the day by discovering Stavanger’s Old Town and visiting some local craft shops.

01.04.26 | Day 1

Finally, the time has come for this year’s TreStykker Easter Workshop! The team gathered in Stavanger for our very first meeting. Our home base for the workshop is Resepsjonen at Tou Scene. Settling in right next to the space where our design will eventually come to life has already given the team a great sense of connection to the location.

We officially kicked things off with a lovely welcome dinner, providing the perfect opportunity for everyone to get to know one another. We dived into an introduction of this year’s site and an overview of the project vision. We also spent time discussing the road ahead and shared lessons learned from previous years. This blend of reflection and planning has set a truly optimistic and motivated mood for the workshop!

BYGGEWORKSHOP 2023

Hver gruppe presenterte ideene sine.

13/04/22

Dag 5: Påskeworkshop 2022

Dagens tema: Videreutvikling og Detaljering

Day 5 What happend: Realisation 1: A whole day of sun in Trondheim is possible. Last night we decided on a collectively concept, well we thought so. After a group session in morning and the presentation after lunch - amazing sun! - we figured out that there are still many decisions to discuss. Roof? Yes, would be good to have one: Gable roof? To static? To complicated to combine with an exhibition concept? Ok, pent roof! But facing which side? Down the hill? Up the hill? Realization 2: Always go back to the side and proof your concept. After the collective decision on roof and location of the future building we went back into „specialised“ group. One working with construction, one with fassade + light featuring an openspace planning and a interior design group. Some feedback after that session came from Nøyson architects. Realisation 3: A good work flow needs a break somtimes. The sun inspired us to do a barbeque for dinner. After a well deserved dinner break the plan is to go to „Havet“, do a sauna and might dip pur toes in the ocean. "

12/04/22
